Dear Parents

Many thanks to everyone who came along to join us for the official opening of our new building, it was indeed an honour and a pleasure to welcome Zambia’s First President, Dr. Kenneth Kaunda to our school and to see him in such fine form. If you have not had an opportunity to visit the new building yet, please feel free to pop in and see us.

Secondary School Prefects

After a lengthy and comprehensive application process which included: application letters, a leadership training weekend, formal interviews and staff and student votes; we are pleased to announce the Secondary School prefects for this academic year as follows:

Hawk House Captains – Valentine de Crayencour & Hussein Hamze
Prefects: Aaliyah Patel, Evtichia Christodolou and Eva van der Heide
Daniel Grogan, Praise Moloseni & Abhinav Balasubramaniam

I am sure everyone would like to join with me in congratulating all of our students and   wishing them every success in their new roles.

Homework
After half term we will be uploading a link to a document detailing homework set for students in years 7 to 11 so that parents can check which subjects have set homework. We hope that this will be available daily from 16:30 onwards on the Secondary School tab of our website. This should help to provide greater clarity as to what homework has been set and assist students who may have been absent due to illness on any given day.

Zambia Week and Independence Assembly

Next week we will be hosting our annual ‘Zambia Week’ where we celebrate all things Zambian. Please see the attached schedules of events in Primary and Secondary Schools and feel free to join us on Monday morning for our official launch. The theme for this year is the ‘United Nations in Zambia’ so we will be celebrating the 5 continents throughout the week. On Monday we are inviting students in Secondary School to bring a plate of food that represents their country to share with their friends at break time.

We will round off the week with our Independence Assembly, which will be on Friday 16th October at 9.00.and all parents and friends of Baobab are welcome.

Open Day 12th October

Following the launch of our Zambia Week, on Monday, parents are invited to take the opportunity to look around the school and catch a glimpse of some of the activities that go on in class when the school is in operation.

Afternoon Activities

After half term the afternoon activity timetable will change slightly in the Primary school. Instead of basketball there will be boys/girls netball and instead of volleyball there will be girls/boys football. This is to prepare our children adequately for ISAZ fixtures. Letters will be issued directly to the children concerned.

Remember, Remember the 7th of November, Baobab Fireworks!!!!!!!!

It’s that time of year again when we look to our parents to help us organise our biggest event of the year. Baobab Fireworks has become one of Lusaka’s most eagerly awaited social events and thoroughly enjoyed by all members of the community. This year it promises to be better than ever but we urgently need your help. If you are able to give us an hour to work on the gate or man a stall we would be very grateful. Or if you have crafts or food that you would like to sell, please contact Idah Longmore for more details but hurry, as spaces are limited.

We look forward to having you join us!

Sincerely
Jan Lamb (Mrs)
Principal, Baobab College
