Reading in the holidays

In order for students to continue to improve their literacy during the holiday break, the password for Accelerated Reading book quizzes will be disabled and therefore students can continue to take quizzes at home or anywhere with a secure internet service. The specific website to use is: https://ukhosted51.renlearn.co.uk/3455553/ .

Students should be aware of their ZPD level and the appropriate books within their range can be found on the AR Bookfinder website at the following address: http://www.arbookfind.co.uk/

As an added incentive to encourage reading during the school break, any student successfully achieving 85% in AR quizzes, taken on 5 books at the appropriate level will receive 5 merits at the beginning of the new school year. In order to facilitate this, the School Library will be open from 1st August until the beginning of the new term from 1000-1200 hours from Monday to Friday.

We hope students will embrace the joy of reading regularly and widely, whether from hard copy books, tablets or Kindles. Students can also keep up to date with new publications of children’s and young adult’s literature by viewing the following address regularly, www.lovereading4kids.co.uk .

“Books are the plane, and the train, and the road. They are the destination, and the journey. They are home.”  Anna Quindlen,  How Reading Changed My Life.

This is a long holiday and we encourage students, parents and guardians to read together and independently –  don’t be bored, invest in your imagination and your future and pick up a book.

Happy Reading!
