Remember, remember the 7th of November, Baobab Fireworks!!
Yes it’s that time of year again and plans for another fantastic fireworks display are already at an advanced stage. This year gates will open at 15.00 so come early to avoid any queues. As always we will be having our children’s fancy dress competition for all children and the watermelon carving competition for Baobab Primary School classes, plus all the usual side stalls, food and drinks that make our fireworks event fun for all the family.

If you would like to have your own corporate (or family area) the cost is K3000, which includes 10 complementary tickets. Ten (10) Extra tickets may be purchased separately but the maximum number of people in any area cannot exceed 20 people (inclusive of both adults and children).

Baobab Fireworks has become a major event on the Lusaka calendar but without our army of volunteers it would simply not be possible. If you are willing and able to offer even 1 hour of your time to help us on this busy day, we would be very grateful. Sign up sheets are available in Reception.

Discounts for Baobab Students
The cost of tickets for this years’ fireworks will be K100 adults and K50 children. To qualify for the children’s rate children should be in grade 6 and below. Children from Grade 7 and above i.e. age 11 and over pay the adult rate, however, we are offering a concession to Baobab children. All of our Secondary School students will be able to purchase tickets next week at K50. So please buy in advance and save money, as this concession will only be available up to 14.00 on Friday 6th November. Students will be given more details in assembly on Monday.

Health and Safety
In the current hot weather it is very common for children to pick up stomach bugs and infections, very young children in particular are very vulnerable and therefore, we ask all parents to be vigilant and not to send children to school when they are feeling unwell. Not only is it a miserable experience for the child to be in class with a runny tummy but also there is a real danger of passing infections on to their friends, classmates and teachers. One of the best ways of protecting children from infection is to encourage proper washing of hands, especially before handling food.

Community service
As we head towards the Christmas period there are two events that have become part of our annual community service calendar. The first of these will be our annual Christmas party on Tuesday December 1st where will be hosting around 80 students in total. These will be from Cheshire Homes, Guardian Angels, City of Hope and Divine Community school. If you are interested in making any donations to this including any old toys or clothes that you may have at home please get in touch with Miss Ng’andu or Madame Dindoyal.

The second event will be our ‘Tree of Joy’ where we try to arrange Christmas gifts for children from one of our local community schools. More details will follow in future newsletters.

Duke of Edinburgh/International Youth Award
This weekend will see 25 of our year 10 and 11 students take part in their practice camp for their bronze award. They will be having a practice hike as well as learning essential skills for their final expedition later in the year. This means that in total we have in excess of 60 students working towards either Bronze, Silver and Gold awards in this prestigious programme.
